The Pantrynook Story
When my husband and I moved out the city and relocated to southern Maharashtra, we did so with a plan to start something of our own. For nearly a decade, we've been careful about our buying habits, often times going to great lengths to avoid buying items that harm the environment - from chocolates to items containing palm oil to stuff that comes in plastic packaging. We faced immense difficulties, especially when it came to food items - most of which comes pre packaged in super market stores. So when we sat down to discuss business ideas, a company that offers 'zero waste' solutions for sensitive buyers like ourselves seemed like something we both wanted to do!
For nearly 2 years, we've been brainstorming about how 'plastic free' packaging would look like in a world where 'non plastic' options are not only in dwindling supply but also expensive (Zero waste solutions are often for this reason more expensive). So how does one solve this problem? That too without having access to start up capital of any kind. It took some time to arrange the funds to start off this experiment. After much planning, debate and research, we are ready to launch and introduce PantryNook to the world. With immense pride, we invite you to be a part of this amazing journey!!

Creating ‘Plastic Free’ Packaging is a starting point, a place to begin while we work towards creating alternative (environmentally sensitive) business models. What we want to do is to set up a business that incorporates the ideas of a circular economy model. Procuring and selling locally (preferably directly from farmers and local producers), using packaging items that are reusable or biodegradable, minimizing as much as possible the use of logistical supply chains are some of the criterias Pantrynook is trying to incorporate in its business model. Accomplishing this is easier said than done. We are trying to re create a model that is no longer being used by anyone anywhere in the world. Finding vendors willing to provide commodities in plastic free packaging, store partners willing to house our products, setting up multiple modes so we can procure and sell products at a hyper local level are all challenges we are having to overcome. Most of the above mentioned channels do not currently exist. We are thus having to create them anew - this is, as you can imagine a difficult and slow process. But hey, we ARE breaking new ground and each challenge brings new opportunities. We are just getting started!
